Happy Songkran Thai 🇹🇭 New Year to all my beautiful family and friends! May your year ahead be joyous. I have such happy memories of Songkran festivities- where water is thrown on everyone and celebrated with laughter and the beautiful Thai smiles. With my dad and I squirting water pistols at people in the street and being ambushed by strangers all celebrating with the fun of a good water fight. Shame I couldn’t have stayed for this! Songkran is Thailand's most famous festival. An important event on the Buddhist calendar, this water festival marks the beginning of the traditional Thai New Year. The name Songkran comes from a Sanskrit word meaning 'passing' or 'approaching'. Songkran is also a time to pay reverence to ancestors. Splashing water to symbolise the washing away of sins and bad luck is a theme throughout the festival.
